Protection From Abuse (PFA)

It’s terrifying when an intimate partner goes from being a safe haven in the storm to the storm itself. One in four women and one in seven men will experience domestic abuse at some point in their lifetime. One in fifteen children is exposed to intimate partner violence. A PFA, or Protection from Abuse, order can be obtained against a spouse, intimate partner, or anyone related to you by blood or marriage. Commonly known as a restraining order, it prevents the alleged abuser from contacting or stalking you or entering your home. A Protection from Intimidation order is filed to protect a child aged 18 or younger from an adult who is harassing them. A Sexual Violence Protection Order is filed against a sexual assaulter who is a stranger, acquaintance, or co-worker.
